Jack's First Trip - Indiana!

We had a very busy weekend. We traveled to Indiana to see Tait's family and attend my friend Jamie's wedding in Bloomington on Saturday night. This was the first trip with Jack so I of course was a little stressed with what to pack, when we should leave and how Jack is going to be in the car! We left Friday morning after Jack woke up and ate. He slept really good and we only stopped 3 times to feed, burp and change him. We weren't sure how long it would take to get to Indy with him but it only added an hour to our trip. We hope he will always be this good because this is only one of many trips! Jack got to visit with his great grandparents Roach and Spike, Grandma KarKar and Doug. Tait's mom cooked a wonderful dinner for us Friday night and Jack loved spending time with his Grandma KarKar!

We headed to Lake Lemon on Saturday which is about 20 minutes from Bloomington. Aunt Dana, the girls and Uncle Joe came down to watch Jack while we went to the wedding. I was nervous to leave Jack but at least we didn't have to spend a whole night away from him. We were so thankful for that! We had a great time at the wedding but we were ready to head back to be with the little man even though he was already asleep. Dana said he was really good so that was comforting to hear. We are so grateful for Aunt Dana and Uncle Joe for watching him so we could get away for a night!

The next day we headed back to Bloomington for lunch and to hang out on IU's campus. Tait was in heaven! He was really happy to be back and show Jack where he went to school and where he thinks or hopes Jack will be going. He even got him a "Hoosier Baby" onesie! Little does he know Jack is a Tennessee Volunteer and will always be one! We really enjoyed walking around and spending time together as a family. It was a wonderful day and a perfect ending to our weekend!

Daddy's First Feeding!

Ok...To tell the truth this picture is totally a reenactment. Tait has been waiting for this moment for forever and when it happened I was out getting dinner and couldn't capture it. Can you tell the bottle is empty and Jack is crying? Ha Ha! Tait loved being able to feed him and feels an even stronger bond with his son!

Weekend Update!

We had a great weekend with Jack. We went to dinner Friday night and he was so good. On Saturday we went to cousins Charles, Jessica and William's soccer games. He enjoyed being outside and listening to everyone scream and cheer on the teams. I posted a picture of us at the game. Later that day I pumped and we tried giving Jack a bottle since we will be attending my friend Jamie's wedding next weekend in Bloomington, IN. Tait tried it first and he didn't want it at all. I was so nervous this would happen. I looked up tips in my book and looked on the internet and we tried again Sunday. Tait went to get a bottle that was highly recommended for breastfeeding mothers and we waited until he was in a good mood - not too hungry and it was a little better this time. He didn't latch on but at least he was playing with it and a little milk went in his mouth. He then began to get frustrated and didn't want it. Now we were both nervous and started to think he might never take a bottle and we might not be able to go to the wedding. This morning after Jack and I woke up I tried the bottle with him. He played with it for awhile and occasionally went for my boob but I kept my focus on the bottle. After a few moments he finally latched on and started sucking. As he was eating out of the bottle he would look up at me and tears rolled down my face. I have been breastfeeding for the last 7 weeks and to see him take a bottle made me sad for some reason. I know you're thinking isn't this want I want? So I can go to the wedding and have some independence? Well it is..... but why do I feel so bad? Am I feeling guilty for being selfish? Is it too soon to bottle feed him? I definitely have mixed emotions about this but realize that I'm still going to breastfeed and that giving him a bottle is going to only be occasional. Besides, Tait will now be happy that he can take part in the feeding process every now and then! Our goal is to give him a bottle at least once a day this week to prepare him for Aunt Dana this weekend.

Ouch! I Did It Again!!!!

So here's the story on this...This is a picture of his thumb the first time I clipped his nails. It was an awful experience for me and even worse for him! I heard to clip their nails after they take a bath so their nails will be nice and soft. That's just what I did. I started with his pinky and worked my way in and thought this isn't as bad as I thought. I get to his thumb and after I clipped his nail, I hear a loud cry and looked down and it was bleeding! He wouldn't stop crying and it wouldn't stop bleeding! We didn't have any bandaids so blood got on his clothes and his blanket. Just a reminder of what a bad mom I am! It turns out as you can see, I not only clipped his nail but his skin behind his nail! Needless to say I stopped there and did not do his other hand. Since then, my sister Aunt Te has clipped his nails since she thinks it's so easy and she couldn't stand the sight of Jack's long fingernails. Well...that was weeks ago and now his nails are long again. I try not to look at them but it's hard not to notice the dirt underneath and his scratches hurt! I keep on hinting to Tait they need to be clipped but he says I need to learn how to do it since he clipped them the first time. Over the weekend I got brave and attempted to clip his nails once again. Again, I started with his pinky but only got to his index finger this time. I didn't see blood right away and his cry wasn't as loud so I thought he was just over being still. I was proud of myself and proceeded to clip his thumb nail but he kept on moving and then I saw blood from his index finger! I got his skin AGAIN!!!!!! What is wrong with me???? Why can't I do this one simple thing???? I didn't finish his thumb or his other hand. I'll take the scratches and dirty nails over hurting him more any day!

Let's Talk Over Brunch!

We have taken Jack to brunch with us a couple of times and he has really enjoyed being outdoors and seeing new places. He has been cooing for weeks and does a lot of it early in the morning . We love to hear him coo! I never have my camera when he does it so I'm so excited that I finally was able to capture it at brunch one Sunday! I'm not good with having my camera ready to catch moments like these but hope to be better in the future. I am a mom now! Ha ha!

Random Pics!

I'm posting random pictures including Jack wearing his first pair of shoes and him in his crib. I don't think he's ready to sleep in there yet considering he cries after a couple of minutes of being in there. Not a good sign. Yikes! We do plan on moving him from his bassinet to his crib in the next month or so.

Jack loves his Play Place!

Jack has enjoyed playing in his play place. I put him in there for about 20-30 minutes and it has become part of our morning routine. I'm not quite sure if he realizes what it is nor can he reach the hanging toys but he likes to look at the bright colors and moves his arms and kicks his legs like crazy! He also enjoys tummy time and already tries to roll over on his side. I love hearing him laugh and make noises as he's playing in there!

Sleep, Sleep and more Sleep!

Jack has done a whole lot of sleeping in the last 6 weeks. He likes to take naps on his daddy as you can see. He now sleeps 4-5 hrs at night and even 6 hrs the other night. We were so excited!!! It's crazy to see how much he's grown - check out the neck roll in the last picture! He looks so peaceful when he sleeps. Love it!!!!

Jack's First Bath!

We discovered that Jack likes taking a bath only if he has warm water on him constantly which makes bath time very quick. We rinse him off with the shower head and he loves it so as of right now he prefers showers over baths! I love putting him in his robe and cuddling with him after he's all nice and clean!

3 Generation of Roach guys!

First trip to the doctor - he didn't like the car ride!

Our lives changed forever that day and we are truly blessed to have our amazing little boy. There are no words to express the miracle of life. It is awesome!
